Tether™ • New App Announcement

If you have time to doomscroll, you have time to call someone you love.

May 8, 2026

The average person spends 2 hours and 41 minutes per day on social media. That time is fundamentally not fulfilling. Passive consumption on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Reddit is scientifically linked to increased loneliness, despite giving us the illusion of social connection.

Meanwhile, a 10-minute phone call with a close friend or family member reduces loneliness by 20% and anxiety by 30%.

The U.S. Surgeon General recently declared loneliness a national epidemic. 30% of US adults feel lonely weekly. We realized that the cure is already in their pocket. They don't need a new device, and they don't even necessarily need to build new habits from scratch. They just need a nudge at the exact right moment.

Habit Rerouting over Habit Breaking

Introducing Tether™. Tether is a mobile app that monitors passive scrolling behavior and intercepts you — right at the moment you are mindlessly consuming — with a warm, frictionless prompt to call or FaceTime someone you love instead.

Most digital wellness apps try to block content or shame you into putting your phone down. Red timers, strict lockouts, guilt-inducing statistics about time wasted. We think that approach is flawed.

Tether doesn't require you to give anything up. It takes the same impulse (reaching for the phone) and redirects it toward something that actually fills your life with meaning. We call this "Habit Rerouting". It intercepts the existing cue and substitutes a better routine while preserving the reward structure.

Architected for Privacy

Like all apps built at The Glass Collective, Tether is fully offline-first. There is no cloud backend, no user accounts, and no data syndication. Everything stays on your device. We use on-device APIs like Apple's Screen Time capabilities to monitor app usage safely, without anything ever leaving your phone.

Tether isn't about stats. It's about taking back the time you already have.

Stop scrolling. Start calling.

Tether™ is currently in development for iOS and Android.
