Turf/OS™ Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 6, 2026
What Turf/OS™ stores on your device
Turf/OS™ stores the following information locally on your device:
- Property names, zone maps, grass settings, and soil-zone details
- Treatment logs, task progress, task outcomes, and reminders
- Product inventory and custom product details
- Zone photos and soil-test attachments
- App preferences and notification settings
The app uses on-device app storage to keep this data available between launches. Core planning data and app-owned photo attachments are designed to survive same-platform device restore when the operating system restores the app's data.
Turf/OS™ also provides an in-app backup archive flow so you can export and restore your data manually if a device restore is unavailable or incomplete.
Data Turf/OS™ sends to third parties
Turf/OS™ does not require an account and does not send your private lawn-planning data to a Turf/OS™ server.
When you use weather, mapping, or hardiness-zone features, the app may send limited data to third-party services needed to return those results:
- Your foreground location coordinates to Open-Meteo, weather.gov, and the USDA plant hardiness service
- Map requests to the platform map provider used by the app, such as Apple Maps on iOS or Google-backed maps on Android where applicable
Weather responses are cached on-device for at least 15 minutes to reduce repeated location transmissions.
Permissions used by the app
Turf/OS™ may request access to the following device features:
- Location while using the app: used to center the map on your property and fetch local weather and hardiness-zone data
- Camera: used when you choose to scan a product barcode or take a lawn photo
- Photo library: used when you choose to attach a lawn photo or soil-test image
- Notifications: used for local reminders and weather-related alerts created on your device
Turf/OS™ requests these permissions only when they are needed for the feature you choose to use.
Notifications
Turf/OS™ uses local notifications scheduled on your device. The app may also run background weather checks on the device to refresh alert conditions and schedule those local notifications while the app is closed. This release does not use a remote push-notification backend to deliver account-based messages.
Analytics, ads, and payments
This release of Turf/OS™ does not include:
- Third-party analytics SDKs
- Advertising SDKs
- In-app purchases or subscriptions
Affiliate links
Some of the products referenced or linked within Turf/OS™ may include affiliate links. If you click on these links and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you. This helps support the ongoing development of the app.
Backups and restore behavior
On the same platform, such as iPhone-to-iPhone or Android-to-Android, Turf/OS™ is designed so restored app data includes logs, yard maps, and Turf/OS™-owned media files when the operating system restores the app correctly.
Cross-platform restore of backup archives is not guaranteed in this release.
Data retention and deletion
Most Turf/OS™ data remains on your device until you delete it in the app or remove the app from your device. Deleting a property inside the app removes the related local maps, logs, photos, soil tests, and task history for that property.
Security
We use available device-native app storage and platform protections to keep Turf/OS™ data on-device. No storage system can guarantee absolute security.
Children's privacy
Turf/OS™ is not directed to children under 13.
